Dr. Mia Cowan

Dr. Mia Cowan is the founder and Medical Director of MiBella Gynecology.  She is also the Co-founder and Medical Director of MiBella Wellness Center. 

A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Cowan received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Health Education and Promotion from the University of Alabama.  She completed her Doctorate of Medicine and residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical College of Wisconsin.  She was appointed Chief Resident of her residency program from 2005-2006.  Dr. Cowan is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  Dr. Cowan received her training as a Bariatric Medicine Specialist from the Center for Medical Weight Loss and has a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University.

 Dr. Cowan presently provides superior gynecology care to women of all ages, including adolescents.  She has special interests in chronic pelvic pain and minimally invasive surgery, which consist of laparoscopic treatment of endemetriosis, total laparoscopic hysterectomy and operative hysterectomy.  She also provides comprehensive weight loss programs to both men and women, focusing on behavior modification and individualized programs to ensure successful long term weight loss.  Her goal is to provide superior gynecology and weight loss services to her patients to promote lasting health and wellness.

 Dr. Cowan lives in Hoover with her husband and daughter.  During her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. 

Bariatric Medicine

In addition to gynecology services for adolescents and women, MiBella Gynecology, also specializes in Bariatric Medicine (Weight Loss) for men and women. 

MiBella Gynecology provides physician-supervised food plans, meal replacements, Lipo B injections, Vitamin B12 injections, Vitamin D replacement, appetite suppressants when needed, behavior modifications, and science-based activity recommendations.

We set ourselves apart from other weight loss centers by being committed to helping patients lose weight quickly and safely, but most importantly, to helping them keep it off long-term.

Annual exams, screening pap smears, treatment of abnormal pap smears, treatment of endemetriosis, treatment of chronic pelvic pain and dysmenorrhea, adolescent education and prevention, contraception counseling and management, sexual dysfunction, menopause counseling (horomone replacement therapy, alternative treatments, osteoporosis prevention), infertility diagnosis and treatment, treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding and fibroids.
