In April of 1983, Bob Bruce opened Bruce Office Supply on 7th Avenue and 25th Street South. After a successful 26 year career as a salesman for Office Outfitters, he was nervous about taking the plunge—but ready. “It was his lifelong dream to own his own company and pass it on to his family,” says his widow June, who co-founded the company. In April when its doors opened, Bruce Office only had three full time employees: Bob, his daughter Susan, and family friend Glenn Morton. Bob’s son Scott worked part time as a delivery driver before launching his full time sales career with the company two months later. June, already handling Bruce Office Supply’s bookkeeping, quit her administrative secretary job to join her husband and children full time. Business took off quickly; during Bob’s 26 years of commission sales, many loyal customers were eager to help Bob’s dream take flight.
In 1988, after already expanding the 7th Avenue office, Bruce Office moved to 2805 3rd Avenue South, which became the company’s home for the next 16 years. In 2000 after 43 years in the office supply industry, Bob and June retired. Scott purchased the company from them, and after four years of searching, Scott purchased the former Nuncie’s Music building at 2625 2nd Avenue North in 2007. After many renovations, the 24,000 square foot building is the current home of Bruce Office Supply & Furniture, with a 3,600 square foot furnishings showroom.
Bruce Office became an Office Furniture USA (OFUSA) affiliate in September of 2007 and a member of American Office Products Distributors (AOPD) in September of 2008.
