In December 2003, Chris Dupont opened Cafe Dupont on 20th Street North-to rave reviews. The consistently divine cuisine soon brought a host of regulars. Cafe Dupont's storefront building dates to the 1870s. Yet with the help of his wife Leslie, and interior designer, he developed a chic ambience all his own. Tall and stately walls-the color of vanilla ice cream by day-glow like amber after sunset. Glasses and silverware are always polished to a shine. Napkins stand up straight. And the white tablecloths are starched and spotless in this busting yet intimate cafe. Diners at Cafe Dupont enjoy the big city view and a cuisine that originates with the Old World masters. Dupont's style and technique are French, but wherever possible the products are local or regional. Cafe Dupont's dinner menu is divided into courses, half being appetizers and salads, and the other half being entrees. One can order individual courses, from a five-course menu, or from a tasting menu-with a taste of every dish on the menu of Cafe Dupont. Dupont's presentation of each appetizer, entrée and dessert is as beautiful as its flavors. Glazes are swirled around the three dimensional dishes. And Cafe Dupont's fare is served atop plates of a variety of sizes and shapes-with every plate framing each work of art. Cafe Dupont has a separate bar with an old world bar where the bartendar mixes classic cocktails. In addition to the bar, there are also tables in the Cafe Dupont Bar for those who choose to order from Cafe Dupont's restaurant menu. Upstairs there is a loft for private dining, which can accommodate 70 for a cocktail party, reception, or dinner at Cafe Dupont. Both Cafe Dupont's style and its cuisine reflect Dupont’s philosophy. He believes that it is easy to overdo. And part of perfection is knowing when to stop.
